Ingredients
1/2 (3 1/2-pound) chicken, (halved with the breast bone, back and first 2 digits of the wings removed)
1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon ground white pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
1/2 lemon, juiced
Brabant Potatoes, recipe follows
Directions
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Season the chicken on both sides with the salt and white pepper. Set a cast iron pan over high heat and add 2 teaspoons of the olive oil to the pan. Swirl the pan to evenly coat and lay the seasoned chicken half, skin-side down in the pan. Sear until golden, about 3 minutes and place the pan in the oven. Bake until the chicken is fully cooked through, about 17 minutes.

While the chicken roasts, combine the butter, garlic and thyme in a small bowl and use a fork to combine. When the chicken is removed from the oven, place on the wooden trivet, and turn over with a spatula. Spread the thyme-garlic butter over the skin of the chicken, drizzle with lemon juice and serve immediately.

Brabant Potatoes:
Olive oil
2 large red bliss potatoes, thinly sliced
1/2 large onion, sliced
Thyme sprigs
2 tablespoons butter
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
In a cast iron pan or a small oven-proof skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the potato slices and onion slices. Top with thyme sprigs and butter. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Place the pan in the oven and cook the potatoes for about 15 to 20 minutes, until sizzling and fork-tender. Serve immediately.

What is a Diastema and How do I Treat It?A “diastema” is an area of extra space between two or more teeth. The two front teeth of the upper jaw area is where diastema is most frequently seen. Many children experience diastema as primary teeth fall out, though in most cases these spaces close when the permanent teeth erupt.
Diastemas may also be caused by a tooth si…ze discrepancy, missing teeth or an oversized labial frenum, the tissue that extends from the inside of the lip to the gum tissue where the upper two front teeth are located. Secondary reasons involve oral alignment issues such as an overjet or protrusion of the teeth.1

What are My Treatment Options?Once your dentist or dental specialist has determined the reason for your diastema, a treatment plan will be discussed. Options may include:
Keep the diastema.
Orthodontic treatment to move the teeth and close the diastema.
Use porcelain veneers, very thin pieces of porcelain bonded to the outside of the teeth.
Crown and bridge work or replacement of teeth with implants (adults only).
If you have an oversized labial frenum, you may be referred to a periodontist for an oral consultation and surgical procedure called a frenectomy. This procedure involves cutting the frenum and then repositioning to allow for more flexibility. If the frenectomy is conducted on a child, the space may close by itself. If it is a teenager or adult, the space may need to be closed with braces. A consultation with your orthodontist is essential to determine which option is the right option to treatment for you.

Today is a day to thank all military veterans and the men and women currently on active duty that put their lives on the line for the freedoms we all enjoy.

In celebration of Veterans’ Day, Dr. Rupali Wadhwa and our team would like to share a few fun facts about our flag, this national holiday, and our country’s history!

•	Veterans’ Day, a day that was originally called Armistice Day, is a time to thank and honor the men and women who have served in our military.
•	President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the official legislation for Veterans’ Day on June 1, 1954, changing the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day
•	There are 23.2 million veterans in the U.S.
•	The flag was first approved by Congress on June 14, 1777
•	Each of the flag’s colors signify different American values- red is for valor and zeal, white is for hope, purity, and cleanliness of life, and blue is for heaven, loyalty, sincerity, justice, and truth
•	Research by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) helped develop the CAT Scan, the cardiac pacemaker, and the “Seattle Foot” to give those hurt the ability to run and jump
•	When the flag is displayed next to another flag against a wall, the U.S. flag should be on its own right (on the left side when facing the wall).
•	Veterans’ Day is often confused with Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a time for remembering and honoring the men and women who died while serving our country, or as a result of injuries that incurred in battle. Veterans’ Day honors and gives thanks to all veterans who served in our military.
•	There are five states with over 1 million veterans in their population – California, Florida, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania

We are so thankful for all who have and are currently serving in the U.S. and overseas!

We hope you all had a happy and safe Halloween! Also, what are you up to this month? Anything exciting happening in your life? If so, we’d love to hear all about it!

Lastly, have you been in for a dental checkup lately? It’s important that you see your general dentist, as well as visiting Dr. Rupali Wadhwa while you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. If you have questions about your orthodontic treatment or just want some general information, give us a call or ask us during your next visit!
